Bessy Beck trout farm is a 3 lake site near Newbiggin-on-lune with fly and float fishing for rainbow, brown, blue and golden trout. The fish farm is chemical free and is spring fed from the source of the river Lune. The trout are not intensively reared to maintain a high quality and flavour. It takes from 18 months to 2 years to bring the fish to table size. Every month at Orton farmers market you can enjoy carefully selected and freshly caught rainbow trout as well as smoked trout fillets and smoked trout pate. Bessy Beck Trout Farm is just 3 miles from Orton.It is open for 364 days a year from 8 a.m. till sunset and is accessible for the disabled. The farm shop also stocks locally reared lamb and beef. Bessy Beck are regulars at both Orton and Pooley Bridge farmers markets.
